Let's Grow Together! Bring a Friend to Our General Meetings | | WALK THE DUNES
December 12 @ 9:00-11:00
Lowdermilk Park
The Naples Botanical Garden will make a presentation followed by a guided walk on the dunes. They will show us how the Garden uses plants to increase the resiliency of Southwest Florida beaches. We will see how our county is responding with natural solutions to build back our beaches and dunes to protect against future storm surges and coastal erosion due to climate change.
We will meet at 9am, at Lowdermilk Park. Space is limited to 40 people. LWV Members will be given priority.
Parking for beach access in the City of Naples requires residents or visitors to have a beach parking permit or pay-by-space. This is enforced year-round.
We will meet at the Pavillion on the south end of Lowdermilk Park. Please bring your own seating as there will be a short program before we go out on the walk.
Participants must walk on soft sand and stand on a warm beach for about 45 minutes while participating in this educational opportunity. Comfortable shoes, a water bottle, hats, sunglasses, and attire fit for the outdoors is recommended.

LEAGUE LEADERSHIP PROGRAM 6 KICKS OFF
On Thursday, November 7th, we were thrilled to welcome LLP6 members to our Kick-Off event. The event was held at UP ART Contemporary Gallery in Naples. LLP6 members, LLP5 members, and members of the Board attended the event. The event was generously purchased by Beth VanDamme at last year’s Celebrate the League auction and was donated by artist and gallery owner John Carroll Long with refreshments by Stacy Vermylen. It was a beautiful evening to gather, recognize the importance of the leaders among us, and enjoy unique art. If you haven’t visited the gallery, we highly recommend it!

The League Leadership Program (LLP) is designed to recognize potential and current leaders within the LWVCC and provide a deeper dive into the overall function of the League of Women Voters. |
LWVCC OBSERVERS AT THE CANVASSING BOARD
Many league members observed the work of the Collier Canvassing Board this past week. For this general election cycle, the Canvassing Board is chaired by County Judge Janeice Martin. Mike McComas, Everglades City councilor served in place of the chair of the Collier County Commission, who was not permitted to serve because he endorsed candidates. Melissa Blazier also served as our Supervisor of Elections. On Monday, Nov. 4, six league volunteers watched the canvass of Vote-by-Mail ballots that had signature issues. On Tuesday, five league volunteers watched the canvass of the remaining VBM ballots and the preliminary returns from the general election. On Friday, eight league volunteers watched the canvass of provisional ballots and the acceptance of the 1st Unofficial results. The League was so impressed with the care the members of the Canvassing Board take, as they work to find a way to qualify every possible ballot. Observing their work documents the transparency of the counting of votes by our Supervisor of Elections staff and Canvassing Board. In Collier County, we can be confident that our elections are run with integrity.

HELP CELEBRATE THE LEAGUE
WITH A CORK PULL
Wine donations will be taken again this year for the Cork Pull at Celebrate the League—Empowering Collier County Voters for 50 Years, February 27, 2025, at The Olde Cyress Club. Last year we had so much fun and a wide variety of donated wines. If you donated last year, please think about donating once again. And if you would like to share the fun by donating a bottle or two of wine this year—great! We will be collecting wines at our monthly meetings beginning in November. Gayle Repetto is leading the Cork Pull this year. If you would like to coordinate a pick-up or drop-off of your wine, please reach out to Gayle. |
