“KNOW YOUR COUNTY GOVERNMENT”

PROGRAM AT A GLANCE

Now in its 39th year, the Know Your County Government Program (KYCG) consists of 4 non-consecutive days of “field trips” to Collier County Government Offices, where 25-35 high school students and chaperones from LWVCC hear presentations by key Collier County Government leaders.

Participants: KYCG is a joint effort among: 

  • League of Women Voters of Collier County

  • Collier County Public Schools

  • 4-H Club of Collier County

  • Collier County Government

Goals: There are several goals for KYCG, including: 

  • Helping high school students develop an appreciation for the importance and the scope of county government;

  • familiarizing students with county government operations;

  • providing county government leaders and LWVCC chaperones an opportunity to meet students from different parts of Collier County;

  • creating awareness of the job opportunities in county government.

Sample Schedule:

Day 1: 8:00 am to 4:00 pm

  • Collier County Museum, History of Collier County

  • Collier Area Transportation

  • Tax Collector

  • Facilities Management

  • Health Department

  • Sheriff’s Department

  • Property Appraiser

  • Supervisor of Elections

Day 2: 3:00 pm to 7:30 pm

  • Growth Management

  • Collier County Public Schools

  • Communications

  • Superintendent, Organization & Administration

  • Greater Naples Fire Department

  • Parks and Recreation

4H Extension Services (and Pizza in the Park)

Day 3: 8:00 am to 3:45 pm

  • Emergency Operations & 911 Call Center

  • Domestic Animal Services

  • Landfill and Toxic Waste

  • Water Treatment Plant

  • Mosquito Control

  • Waste Water Treatment Plant

Day 4: 8:00 am to 2:30 pm

  • County Management:

  • County Manager

  • County Attorney

  • Observe County Commissioners’ meeting

  • Lunch with County Commissioners
