Please join us on Tuesday, August 11th, for a casual summer evening with your LWVCC colleagues at Violi Mercato. It is a great time to get to know more League members and catch up with “year-rounders” you may not have seen in a while. We will have a few appetizers and there will be a cash bar. Feel free to bring a spouse, partner, or friend—this is purely a social event! Any questions, please feel free to contact Tina Palmese or Jan Eustis.

| NOTES FROM THE PRESIDENT
Florida Amendment 3 - Save Our Homes From Excessive Property Taxes
As we listen to debate about the merits or detriments of Amendment 3, make sure to know exactly what the amendment states. Read about the amendments on Vote411.
Pro: Senator Rick Scott recently made comments to the press stating his support for Amendment 3, arguing it represented needed relief for families while urging counties to eliminate waste rather than cut essential services.
Con: The Fraternal Order of Police, one of the largest unions representing police officers, have announced they are opposing Amendment 3. FOP joins the Florida Professional Firefighters and the Florida Fire Chiefs Association in opposing this ballot measure.

Volunteer to observe the Canvassing Board for the 2026 Collier County Primary Election. At an open public meeting, the Canvassing Board conducts the Logic and Accuracy test of ballot processing and voting machines, reviews Vote-by-Mail (VBM) and provisional ballots, certifies the official results of the election and observes the manual audit of precinct/race. This is an important League service in supporting our mission of free and fair elections, with interesting people who care about election security. Volunteers are needed for the following dates and times:
- Monday, August 17, 9;00-11:00 (Review of Vote-by-Mail ballots)
- Tuesday, August 18, 5:00-8:00 (Review mail-in-ballots and preliminary returns)
- Friday, August 21, 9:00-11:00 (Review of mail-in-ballots & 1st unofficial results)
- Wednesday, August 26, 9:00-11:00 (Certification of results and selection of precinct for manual audit)
- Wednesday, September 2, 9:00-11:00 (Manual Audit)
The meetings will be held at the office of the Supervisor of Elections, 3750 Enterprise Avenue, Naples, 34104. If you can observe one or more meetings, volunteer observers will receive background information to familiarize them with this interesting and important task.
Please join us on Saturday, August 1st, as we participate in the Back to School event organized by the Southwest Florida Family Magazine. It will be a fun-filled day as we interact with young families of our Collier County community on the importance of voting and participating in our democracy. We need volunteers to distribute our informational materials and giveaways. It is an indoor event!

A NEW LOOK FOR THE VOTER
On July 1, we began an exciting new direction for our monthly newsletter. In addition to having short reports from key committees, The Voter will now serve as a forum for thoughtful articles and discussions about the important issues facing our League, our state, and our nation. As we enter an important election season, we want to provide members with information that encourages understanding, conversation, and informed civic engagement.
Members who are interested in writing articles for The Voter should contact the new editor, Stacy Vermylen.
