SCAM ALERT!!!

Several committee chairs recently received an email purportedly from Paula Schwerin saying something like "I am in the process of working on a project and would greatly value your assistance with it. Kindly inform me if you are free today." The sender notes Paula's name, but the email address is NOT Paula's email. The same problem occurred earlier this year with messages that claimed to be from Diane Moore. If you receive an email from Paula or any League member that you suspect may be a scam, please call or email the sender to confirm that it is a valid email using the contact information you can find in our website Member Directory; do not reply to the suspect message. Please forward any scam message that purports to come from someone in the League to techteam@lwvcolliercounty.org.

NO LEAGUE LEADER WILL EVER ASK YOU BY EMAIL OR TEXT TO PURCHASE GIFT CARDS IN AID OF A PROJECT.
LWVCC COMMITS TO DEI THOUGHOUT ITS WORK

This past spring, the DEI Committee submitted a proposal to consider how the important and relevant work of diversity, equity and inclusion will continue to be considered within LWVCC. As the conversation evolved, we continued to remind ourselves that the core mission of the LWV is to educate all voters, especially in underserved communities. As a Board, it was determined that we have the ability to approach the work from multiple points and perspectives. We recognize that we want and need all of our members to recognize a responsibility for awareness of this important and relevant work. We all need to approach our initiatives looking through the lens of diversity, equity and inclusion. We do recognize that this will at times require specific outreach to less included groups. After a great deal of discussion, it was determined that logical places to start would be with Membership, Voter Services and Environmental Affairs Committees to ensure DEI principals are incorporated. In no way does this capture the totality of our ongoing commitment. We recognize that the ongoing commitment to fostering an inclusive and representative League falls squarely with all of us. In terms of membership, this strategic shift aims to embed DEI principles deeply into our core growth strategies, ensuring that our membership actively reflects the broad spectrum of the population we serve. A specific focus will be to encourage membership across a broad spectrum of the population, giving careful consideration to age, race, gender, geography, and all other characteristics listed in the LWV’s DEI Policy. We Invite You to Get Involved as We Move Forward! We hope you will consider joining one of these committees and help us champion our DEI efforts in every aspect of our work:
  • Membership Team: Help us broaden our reach and ensure our membership reflects the diversity of our communities.
  • Voter Services Committee: Work to ensure our voter education and engagement efforts are accessible and impactful for all voters, particularly in underserved communities.
  • Environmental Affairs Committee: Contribute to advocating for environmental policies that consider the diverse impacts on all populations.
We are deeply grateful for your commitment and the foundational work done by the members of the DEI Committee. Their involvement is crucial to making our League truly diverse, equitable, and inclusive. By working together, we can make a significant difference. If you are interested in joining one of these committees and helping shape the future of LWVCC, please reach out to the chairs. We'd love to have you on board!

LWV LAUNCHES UNITE & RISE

Below is a message received from Dianna Wynn, President of LWVUS. If you have already seen this, you can stop reading and delete.  If not, read the message and consider clicking on the “Unite & Rise Commitment Form”. By filling out the form, you will be sure to receive emails messages from LWVUS regarding the national positions. One thing that I like about the message is that it leaves room for each of us to find our own way of ‘mobilizing’ within our own comfort zone.

Sign and Share the Unite and Rise Commitment Form!

To build the powerful movement we need for the 2026 elections, we must grow our network of Unite and Rise supporters — and we can’t do it without you.

We’ve launched the Unite & Rise Commitment Form to identify who’s ready to stand with the League of Women Voters — in person or virtually — as we prepare for future mobilizations. By signing, individuals commit to supporting the movement and will receive focused updates every 90 days. No spam, no unrelated emails — just the information they need to take action when it matters most.

This form is open to everyone who believes in our mission — not just League members — but we hope every League member will be among the first to sign and share. Here’s how you can help:

  • Sign the form yourself if you haven’t already.
  • Share it widely — with your networks, on social media, in newsletters, and in conversations.
  • Encourage others to do the same.

Together, we can build a movement that’s ready to rise when the moment calls. Let’s make sure no one is left out.
