LWVCC Earth Day

LWVCC Celebrates Earth Day 2022 at Cambier Park and the Nature Conservancy of SWFL.  Dozens of adults and children visit the LWVCC booth at both venues to hear about plastic reduction, protecting the environment and Voter Services.

The LWVCC was well represented on Earth Day, Saturday, April 23, at events held in Cambier Park and the Nature Conservancy of SWFL. The two events attracted hundreds of people including many families and gave the League the opportunity to talk about its work around Voter Services and Environmental Affairs. Children and adults walked away with EAC bookmarks and fact sheets featuring the issues the EAC is working on and information about the Skip the Stuff campaign which the League will be launching in the fall.  It entails enlisting food takeout businesses and consumers to skip the  stuff (e.g. cutlery) that comes with takeout orders as one way to reduce the use of single-use plastics in our county.

In the “Kids Zone” at the Cambier Park Pavilion, Peggy Greider helped children and adults trace their hands with marker onto old cotton sheets. Completed sheets could be seen hanging from a tree and the back of the pavilion. After the event, the sheets will be cut up and sewn into small reusable produce bags.

In addition to Peggy other EAC members helping out at both sites included Patti Forkan, Susan Pezzullo, Gary Bromley, Susan Calkins, Char Nycklemoe, Diane Aronson, Liz Feit, Judy Hushon, Louise Cromwell, and Lynn Martin.
