LWVCC Launches Government Observer Corps

Janet Hoffman | Published on 10/7/2021

As a league, we are committed to open government and civic engagement. An Observer Corp is a structured way for us to exercise our right to know about governmental plans and decisions.  The observer attends meetings in person or virtually to monitor the issues being discussed as well as the process. This will also help strengthen our communication within the league.  Our members will feel that they are up to date on county and/or city issues when information about meetings is shared. This will aid in our identification of larger community issues, concerns, or trends that may shape our future work.  It is an opportunity for us to get noticed by local government officials and community leaders (if observers wear their league name tag).  We will become more visible in the community.  Cynthia Cromwell (for the BCCC) and Stacy Vermylen (for Naples City Council) have agreed to lead this new group.  The more volunteers we have, the more we will be able to take turns and share the responsibility of observing the Board of County Commission meetings and the Naples City Council.  Please connect with Cynthia and/or Stacy  so we can be knowledgeable in our local governments’ issues and decisions.
