The Power of Choice: The Role of Palliative Care in End-of-Life Decision Making
Naples, FL - December 23, 2011 - The Power of Choice: The Role of Palliative Care in End-of-Life Decision Making - is the topic for the League of Women Voters of Collier County's upcoming lunch and meeting at the Naples Hilton, 5111 Tamiami Trail North on Monday, January 9. Open to the public, the lunch registration begins at 11:45 AM. The program will begin at 12:30 PM and end promptly at 1:30 PM.
One of your most important New Year's Resolutions for 2012 should be to consider your wishes and those of those around you, and update the documents that will control your end of life decision making. The Social Policy Committee of LWVCC presents an important discussion of advance planning for end-of-life health care with the aid of an expert in our community--Paul Mitchell, MD, is Chief of the Section of Palliative Medicine at Naples Community Hospital and Chief Medical Officer at Avow Hospice, Naples' non-profit hospice care provider.
Dr. Mitchell will discuss important health care issues related to advance planning. In today's health care, the patient is "in charge," when it comes to his or her care decisions. Whether for your own care or that of someone for whom you care, learn what the palliative care team, working along with the patient's own doctor, will offer the patient and family at any age and at any stage in a serious illness.
Dr. Mitchell is willing to take questions from the audience after his prepared remarks.
Reservations must be made by Thursday, January 5. Please call (239) 263-4656 or register on line at www.lwvcolliercounty.org. Lunch is $20 for members and $25 for non-members.
